No debt, grant, or hybrid financing was recorded, while a second undisclosed-value equity deal closed in the Direct Air Capture pathway.
CDR offtake deals rose to five in August, spanning five distinct protocols, although disclosed volume fell by approximately 90% month-on-month to roughly 144,000 tonnes. BECCS accounted for the largest share at 70,000 tonnes through Höganäs AB’s 10-year deal with Öresundskraft.
On the supply side, August issuances rose by approximately 30% month-on-month to roughly 365,190 tonnes, led by Soil-based Removal, while retirements fell by approximately 53% to roughly 232,781 tonnes. Issuances resumed their typical lead over retirements at approximately 1.6 times, following July’s brief period in which retirements exceeded issuances.
On the project front, Brazil’s Mombak delivered its first Amazon carbon removal credits to Google and other buyers more than two years ahead of schedule, boosting confidence in project delivery timelines. VodafoneThree opened a four-year procurement seeking 24,000 tCO2e of UK-based carbon removals for 2027-2030, covering nature-based, engineered, and hybrid projects. Apolownia raised €1 million in seed funding to accelerate high-integrity coastal ecosystem restoration, backed by LITA, Bpifrance, and a group of angel investors.
On the policy side, Kenya unveiled a new carbon market rule book that caps overseas sales of carbon credits, tightening oversight of its market.
