CDR Activity Summary Oct 7, 2026
September 2026 saw CDR investment increase to approximately $78.51 million across eight deals, up from one equity round worth approximately $5.40 million in August. Government grants led at approximately $37.96 million across four deals, driven by BECCS grants in Finland and a DAC grant in Australia. CFP Energy’s approximately $35.00 million debt deal into Vaulted Deep was the single largest investment.
CDR offtake volumes jumped approximately 5.51 million tonnes across seven deals, a 37-fold increase from approximately 144,000 tonnes in August and roughly double the trailing 12-month average. Agreena’s 4.45 million-tonne Soil-based Removal deal accounted for about 81% of total volume, while Google’s 1.0 million-tonne Enhanced Weathering deal with Terradot contributed about 18%.
On the supply side, September issuances rose about 81% month-on-month to roughly 732,401 tonnes, led by Af/Reforestation at about 80%, a sharp reversal from August’s Soil-based Removal-led mix. Meanwhile, retirements fell about 14% to roughly 234,280 tonnes. As a result, the issuances-to-retirements ratio widened to approximately 3.1 times, the largest gap since February’s approximately 5.4 times.
On the project front, ADM announced its planned entry into the voluntary CDR market, with credits from its 800,000+ tonne-a-year Columbus, Nebraska carbon capture complex. Agoro Carbon issued its first soil carbon removal credits to its U.S. cropland projects, marking its first delivery under its Microsoft agreement. Base Carbon announced CORSIA-eligible tagging of 639,609 previously issued credits from its Rwanda cookstoves project. Paracel verified its first carbon removal credits, totaling over 190,000 tonnes of FSC-certified sustainable forestry.
